What is it?

Prompt stash is a simple app that generates a daily prompt for a 10 minute object writing exercise, as outlined in Pat Pattison’s book Writing Better Lyrics.

How it works

Fire up the app, press the big red button to see today’s prompt. A 10 minute timer will start and notify you when it’s finished with a gong or notification (if you are using another app).

If you get distracted or want to start later, you can restart the timer, but only after it’s timed out and the green button is present.

A new word is pulled from the store each day. There are 1825 prompts in the datastore, enough for ~5 years if used each day. You can reset the prompts should you get to the point of having used them all.

What the options are

You can have the timer active the entire time if you wish, or have the screen turn to black with just the timer showing, the timer and sense reminders, or just sense reminders showing.

I have also configured my iPhone’s action button to open Prompt Stash.

Why it’s free

It’s simple, it has five years worth of daily prompts included, so requires no maintenance, and although I developed it (with some AI help), it is built on the shoulders of other’s ideas and previous attempts.
